RF transformers (transmission line transformers) are for radio frequency use in the circuitry of radio transmitters. Radio frequency signal circuits typically require inductances or transformers having multiple windings to perform standard radio frequency circuit functions. Wireless phones, for instance, require receivers which have tuned circuit inductors and transformers in the first RF section, and have mixer circuits which use transformers for converting the received microwave signals into intermediate frequency signals. Such transformers are required to have compact size compatible with miniaturized electronic circuitry, minimized flux leakage to avoid stray inductive coupling between adjacent circuits proximal to the transformer; high Q factor; and, high coupling efficiency over the broad radio frequency (RF) band of 2 to 30 megahertz. Typically these types of transformers operate at much higher frequencies than transformers used for power transfer, and are also designed to operate at a wide frequency range, often several decades wide.
