A network is a collection of interconnected devices allowing users to access and share resources and data. Networking of computer systems and other electronic devices has become a necessity for most working environments. Computer systems in offices and homes are networked in local area networks (LANs). Geographically distant computer systems can be networked in wide area networks (WANs). The Internet is a worldwide system of interconnected networks that runs the Internet Protocol (IP) to transfer data (e.g., packets). A networking system consists of multiple computing devices which include servers, routers, bridges, switches, repeaters, gateways, hubs, network interface card, and other equipment needed to perform data-processing and communications within the network.
