The development of increasingly digital and multimedia electronics has led to a need for improved electronic cables capable of carrying more signals at high frequencies and at lower signal levels than ever before. Increased sophistication of automated test equipment, aircraft, weapon systems, and telecommunications equipment such as satellites have increased the demand for high signal density multiconductor cable that is increasingly miniaturized and at the same time lighter in weight and capable of withstanding extreme temperature variations. Flexible cable is increasingly used in these area because such cable exhibit extremely high cross-talk rejection, be of minimum thickness, and be capable of being folded back upon itself, so as to be applicable for telephone under-carpet cable applications. A multiconductor, shielded cable typically has two or more individually insulated conductor wires that are twisted around each other. A multi-conductor cable is also composed of a filler occupying the interstices within the core and between the sheath and the core. The filler serves to provide circular cross section of the cable, to prevent the deformation of the cable and to improve the tensile strength of the cable. Multiple pairs of insulated wires is accurately spaced, in ribbon cable, by laminating multiple pairs of twisted wire between thin plastic film. The use of twisted pairs of multi-conductor cable is of great importance in the field of communications, data processing and other applications.
